FAP NextGen: Design of a Governance-Focused Digital Platform for Family Adoption Programme Documentation and Reflective Learning: A Viewpoint

Background: The Family Adoption Programme can help Indian medical students learn from families over time, but paper-based documentation limits continuity, feedback, and data governance. Materials & Methods: This View point introduces FAP NextGen, a live digital ecosystem designed for Family Adoption Programme documentation, guided reflection, faculty review, and privacy-aware community health education. The framework was developed by mapping user workflows to competency-based medical education, National Education Policy priorities, national digital health priorities, ABDM principles, data protection requirements, and scenario-based pilot testing with fictitious family and student records. Results: The platform architecture includes household registration, longitudinal visits, structured reflection, AI-assisted formative prompts, faculty dashboards, role-based access, consent records, audit trails, and exportable administrative evidence. Scenario-data pilot testing was used to check end-to-end navigation, form logic, user roles, consent workflow, and dashboard behavior. Conclusions: FAP NextGen is presented as a robust, scalable and governance-aware digital solution for Indian community medicine education. Formal field evaluation, cost analysis, user testing, and independent security review are still required before full-scale institutional implementation.
